Becoming a Member
Membership
In describing the nature of the Christian life, the Bible says that we are all members of the Body of Christ. It’s not something we do in isolation. It’s something we do together in community. We are a part of a larger whole. No one has to become a member to be involved in any of our activities at Overbrook. However, we always welcome with joy those who choose to join our community of faith.
New Member & Inquirer Classes
For those who are interested in church membership, New Members & Inquirer Classes are offered a couple of times each year. These usually consist of three sessions, held on Sunday afternoons immediately following worship. They provide newcomers with an opportunity to connect with church staff and lay leaders, and to learn about our congregation—our identity, our history, our denomination, our different ministries and ways to get involved. Lunch and childcare are always provided.
Joining the Church
There are three ways that people can join Overbrook: by transfer of membership from another Christian church; by reaffirmation of faith if a letter of transfer is unavailable; or by profession of faith for those who have never been members of a church. New members are received formally by the Session, and welcomed by the congregation during a Sunday morning service. If you’re interested in exploring the possibility of membership, please contact our office.
