Gatherings

Overbrook Gospel Choir
Saturday, February 7 & Sunday, February 8
Overbrook Gospel Choir will sing on Sunday, February 8. We had a wonderful turnout for the choir's debut in October and plan to keep the momentum going with another great Sunday. Here is what that weekend will look like:
Saturday, February 7, 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM—We will gather in the basement of OPC to review the gospel style, listen to some songs, practice some new techniques, and learn two anthems.
Sunday, February 8, 10:00 AM—The following day, we will warm up before the service, go over a few spots in the anthems, and then, at 11:00 AM, it's time to sing!
Books Through Bars
Saturday, February 7
1:00 to 4:00 PM
Come join this low-stress, highly rewarding activity on a Saturday afternoon. We carpool from the OPC parking lot at 1:00 PM to Baltimore Avenue and are back in our cars by 4:00 PM. Please contact Janet Bowker if you want to learn more.
The Kensington Project
Sunday, February 8
10:00 AM
The Kensington Project is a non-profit organization that supports people affected by the opioid crisis in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood. Youth and families are invited to join us as we feed, clothe, and love our neighbors. We will be gathering at OPC on Sunday, February 8 at 10:00 AM. If you would like more information or would like to attend, please contact Becky Lazo or Suchita Fiorillo.

Family Dinner
Tuesday, February 24

Gather with us for a meal, then turn toward practices of contemplative silence: centering prayer, and this month, an exploration of poetry as a form of spiritual attention. Childcare is provided. All are welcome. Bring a dessert or case of seltzer to share if you’d like, or just bring yourself. RSVP to Anthony Carrella.

Becoming a Member

Membership

In describing the nature of the Christian life, the Bible says that we are all members of the Body of Christ. It’s not something we do in isolation. It’s something we do together in community. We are a part of a larger whole. No one has to become a member to be involved in any of our activities at Overbrook. However, we always welcome with joy those who choose to join our community of faith.

New Member & Inquirer Classes

For those who are interested in church membership, New Members & Inquirer Classes are offered a couple of times each year. These usually consist of three sessions, held on Sunday afternoons immediately following worship. They provide newcomers with an opportunity to connect with church staff and lay leaders, and to learn about our congregation—our identity, our history, our denomination, our different ministries and ways to get involved. Lunch and childcare are always provided.

Joining the Church

There are three ways that people can join Overbrook: by transfer of membership from another Christian church; by reaffirmation of faith if a letter of transfer is unavailable; or by profession of faith for those who have never been members of a church. New members are received formally by the Session, and welcomed by the congregation during a Sunday morning service. If you’re interested in exploring the possibility of membership, please contact our office.
